E. William Shaw, 48, clerk of the Montgomery Circuit Court since Jan. 1, 1961, died at Culver Hospital at 12:30 a.m. Monday after an extended illness. Mr. Shaw, who also had been serving as Montgomery County Republican chairman, was re-elected to another four-year term as clerk in the Nov. 3 general election. He would have started his second term on New Year’s Day. A lifelong resident of the county, Mr. Shaw was associated in the meat business with his father, Edward Pressley Shaw, for a number of years. He continued the business following his father’s death and later operated a frozen food locker plant. He was always active in community affairs, especially those in connection with youth activities. He was a Boy Scout leader and was one of the organizers of Little Baseball in the community. He also was an active member of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Shaw was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Masonic organizations including Montgomery Lodge No. 50, F & AM, the Order of Eastern Star and the Shrine. During the past year he had been chairman of the Montgomery County Heart Fund Drive. Edward William Shaw was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Crawfordsville, the son of Edward Pressley and Susan Simms Shaw. He was married April 25, 1936, to Ruth Woerner. He was graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1933, and attended Wabash College where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The survivors include the wife, two children, Susan, employe of the City Library, and David, a Crawfordsville High School student, and a sister, Mrs. John R. Berry of this city. Another daughter, Nancy, died in 1943. His parents also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home, where friends may call after noon Tuesday. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. – jlr
