Sharp - Joseph Russell

Joseph Russell Sharp was born near Waveland June 20, 1848 and died at his home on Green Street Friday April 10th. He had been a life long resident of Waveland. He had been in poor health for almost 3 years, most of this time being confined to his home. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Moore (Hutton in her obit), 40 years ago, last October. There were no children born to this marriage. They had one adopted daughter, Mrs. Bert Dowden of Crawfordsville who is deceased. He was a member of the 40th Ind. Regt Co A in the Civil War and served with distinction in several battles. He is survived by the wife, daughter one sister, Mrs. Martha Simpson of Clinton, one half sister, Mrs. Alice Hunt of Waveland, two half brothers, Matthew Sharp of Soldier's Home, Danville, Robert Smith of Ohio and several nieces and nephews with many neighbors and friends to mourn his loss. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. & Mrs. Robert Carlin and Mr. & Mrs. Charles Kief and Mr. & Mrs. Pugh of Clinton; Mr. & Mrs. Bert Dowden; Mr. & Mrs. Charles Sering, Mrs. Sarah McIntosh; Mr. Harding; Mrs. Bertha Moore and Mrs. Mary Bilbo of Crawfordsville; Mr. & Mrs. FA Stebbins of Hillsboro, Matthew Sharp of Danville, Sam Sharp and Jesse Thompson of Bellmore. - kbz
