Taylor B. Shanks, the third son of Sidney A. and Harvey Shanks was born at Crawfordsville, Indiana, Jan 28, 1863. When he was one year of age the family removed to Waveland where they still reside. He was married to Miss Margarite Thomson, July 9, 1899. Since he was 18 he had been in the railroad service and met his death in performance of duty at St. Louis, Mo. Feb 22, 1900. He was a member of Centenary ME Church at Terre Haute and was also connected with the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen also the Junior Order of American Mechanics and the Knights of Pythias. The funeral occurred from the home of Mr. Frank Dengler, Terre Haute, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Dr. William Torrence of the Presbyterian church. A large body of the membership of the three orders participated in the impressive ceremonies at the grave. The floral expression of sympathy, was numerous and beautiful. Mr. Shanks was a noble, kindhearted Christian gentleman loved and honored by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, father, three brothers and a sister who mourn for him "not as those who have no hope" but yet, as for one whose place cannot be filled. The family wish to thank those who, by their kindness and sympathy have helped them in their sorrow. --kbz

Word was received here last Friday morning announcing the death of Taylor Shanks. He was a railroad employee in St. Louis, Mo., and was killed while on duty. The funeral was held in Terre Haute Sunday, his sister, Miss Elizabeth and his father from here attending. He was married last June to a Miss Thompson in Terre Haute. -s
