Joseph N. Shanklin, 54, of Indianapolis died at 5:30 Thursday in St. Vincent’s Hospital at Indianapolis. Mr. Shanklin was a retired employee of the Veteran’s Administration. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had served with the United States Army during World War II. He was born Oct. 6, 1924, at Crawfordsville, a son of Lloyd Elston and Doris Gray Shanklin. He was a 1942 graduate of Crawfordsville High School, and he had attended Wabash College and Washington State University. In May 1953 he was married to the former Patricia Roeder, who survives. Other survivors are the mother, Doris Dellinger of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Larry Shanklin of Crawfordsville and Robert Shanklin of Speedway; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Donna) Wilson of Crawfordsville. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Irving Hill Chapel of Shirley Brothers Co., Inc., 5377 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-5 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. Sunday. – jlr
