Cpl. John W. Shanklin, Jr. 22, son of Mrs. Edith Shanklin, 503 Wayne Avenue, died of wounds in Korea August 6, his mother was notified by the Department of Defense Tuesday afternoon. Cpl. Shanklin's father is dead. He enlisted in the Army in November, 1948 and had been overseas 18 months. Word of his having been wounded in Korea was received by the mother Sept 2. He was serving in the 34th Infantry Regiment. Cpl. Shanklin attended Crawfordsville HS. He also was a member of the Crawfordsville National Guard before enlisting in the Army. Besides the mother, a sister, Mrs. James Wyatt, also of this city, survives. -- kbz
