Mellott - Chester Devorl Shamp, 77 of Mellott died at 7:45 a.m. Monday in Country Care Nursing Center at Harrison Steel Casting in Attica for 30 years as a foreman of the electric furnaces and retired in 1964.  He had also farmed in the Mellott area and raised and rode horses in local parades.  He was a member of the Mellott Church of Christ and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431 of Crawfordsville. He had attended school at Judyville in Warren County. He formerly lived in Wingate for 30 years nad had been a resident of Mellott for the past 13 years. He served in the Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.  He was born in Tippecanoe County Jan 20, 1917 to Benjamin Franklin and Rosa Patterson Shamp. He married Winifred Schumacker Dec 10, 1943 in Crawfordsville. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Chappell of Grand Haven, Mich and Mrs. DOnna Brittain of WIngate; a son, Ron Shamp of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Gold Hickman of Attica and ---- for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Maus Funeral Home at Attica with Rev. Phil Crubaugh officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in the Waynetown masonic Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 pm. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. - kbz
