Hillsboro -- Vera G. (Gegner) Shade, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, in Williamsburg Healthcare Center, Crawfordsville. She was born Jan 28 1908, in Waynetown, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Ball Gegner. She married Ernest D. Shade April 2 1927 in Fountain County. He preceded in death in 1978. She formerly worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for C. L. Snyder & Associates in Hillsboro and later for Dr. George Crane at the Hopkins Syndicate in Mellott. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women and the church choir. She was also a member of the Cain Township Home Economics Club, Hillsboro Harmony Club and was noted for her quilting even while a resident of Williamsburg Healthcare. Survivors include: a daughter, Lillian J. Davidson, Crawfordsville; a son, Gerald G. (Barbara) Shade, Noblesville; two sisters, Mary Probst, Plymouth and Charlotte Hudson, Crawfordsville; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Allen Sparks officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Hillsboro United Methodist Church. - kbz
