Ernest D. SHADE, 72, of Hillsboro died Monday May 1, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been admitted a short time before. Born near HIllsboro, he was the son of Garfield and Mary Gray Shade. He was married April 2, 1927, to Vera Gagner, who survives. Shade retired in 1971 from the Fountain County Highway Department. He had been employed most of his life by the county and state highway departments. Graduate of Hillsboro High in 1925, he had served many years as a Republican precinct committeeman. He was a membe rof the board of the Bi-County Council on Aging and had attended the United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Hillsboro Boosters Club & Heritage Club. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Lillian) Davidson of Crawfordsville; a son, Gerald of Monticello, Ind; a sister, Miss Mabel Shade of Hillsboro; five grandchildren and a great grandson. Services at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Hayden officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
