HILLSBORO — Mrs. Edith C. Shade, 86-year-old lifelong resident of Fountain County, died at 3 a.m. Thursday in Rudisill Nursing Home at Covington. She had been a patient there since last March. Mrs. Shade was a member of the United Christian Church and Book Lovers Club, both of Mellott. Born Nov. 29, 1877 near Hillsboro, she was a daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth DeAth Carpenter. She married Hiram Shade of Hillsboro, who died in 1939. Surviving are two sons, Homer W. of Rt. 3, Veedersburg and Theodore K. of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Daniel Carpenter of Winter Haven, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body was brought to Crumley-Williams Funeral Home here. Friends may pay their respects Friday afternoon and evening. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. George Phelps of Newtown officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery here. --typed by Walt W
