Charles Madison Shade, 74, of Rt 1, died at 9:25 p.m. Sunday July 25 in AMI Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville following an extended illness. Mr. Shade was born Oct 28, 1918 in Hillsboro. He married Elouise J. Remster, June 1, 1942 in Seattle, Wash and she survives. A lifelong resident of Hillsboro he graduated from Hillsboro HS in 1936 and attended Indiana University. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and served in California, Washington, Idaho and Guam. Mr. Shade was a farmer in Fountain County until 1959 when he joined the Hillsboro State Bank, now the Bank of Western Indiana. In 1979, he joined the Fountain Trust Bank, serving the Mellott Branch. He was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent, chairman of the official board, trustee and charter member of the adult choir. Mr. Shade was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, Fern Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, American Legion Post 188, Rockville Elks Lodge, Fountain County Low 12 Club and Hillsboro Booster Club. Also surviving is a daughter, Jane Link of Lawrenceburg, Ind.
“Funeral Notice.” – Shade, Charles M. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillsboro United Methodist Church, Pastor Richard Russell officiating. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery. Also surviving are two grandchildren, a great granddaughter. Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sally Jean. Memorials to Diabetes Association or Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
