Shuey - John William

John William Shuey, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Shuey, was born in
Roanoke county, Va., October 6, 1836, and departed this life July 7,
1912, aged 75 years and 9 months. He was one of a family of sixteen
children, all but three having departed this life, two sisters in
Stewartsville, Mo., and one sister in Iola, Kan., surviving.
Mr.
Shuey was united in marriage to Susan C. Smith December 7, 1864. To this
union were born five children, Minnie M Godbout of Crookston, Minn.,
Laura A. Shuey, Jamestown, Chas. L., Crawfordsville, and William T. of
Indianapolis, surviving; James M. having died in infancy.
At an
early age he moved with his parents to Pittsburg, Mo., where he remained
until the beginning of the Civil War. Later he came to Ladoga, and
while there united with the Lutheran church, afterward becoming
converted to the Christian church, at New Winchester, Ind. For the last
thirty- seven years he was a member of Fountain Christian church, near
Ladoga.
Mr. Shuey was one who highly appreciated the kindness of
neighbors and friends, and was a man held in high esteem in his
neighborhood.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church here, Monday
afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Sam Smith. Interment was at I.O.O.F.
Cemetery.
