The Rev. John R. Servies, 90, of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville, a retired Christian minister who served in several church in West Central Indiana died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday in Carmen Nursing Home. He had been a patient there since May. He was ordained a minister in 1906 and had lived in the Crawfordsville area since 1902. He was a member of Christian Union Church near Waynetown and attended seminary school at Dayton, Ohio. He had grown and sold produce and butchered meat for several years. The Rev. Mr. Servies was a veteran of WWI. He was also a member of Wallace Eastern Star, Wallace Low 12 Club, Wallace masonic Lodge 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and Crawfordsville Eagles Lodge. He was born at Geneva, Neb on Nov 15, 1886, a son of John A. and Mary Peters Servies. He was married to Mamie Stout in 1906. She died in 1971. Surviving are four sons, John R, Jr., of Crawfordsville. Edward of Indianapolis. Leslie of Virginia Beach, VA and Gordon of Greer, SC; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Lane and Mrs. Pau (Doris) Henricks of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Georgia Abernathy of Chicago; 29 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two infant children, 11 brothers and sisters, a grandchild and a great great grandchild. Services will be 2 p..m. Friday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Morris Finch and Wesley Ehre officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Christian Union Missionary. -- kbz
