NEWTOWN — Military services will be held for Capt. Dale L. Sering at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Broad Ripple Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary in Indianapolis. Capt. Sering will be buried in the Newtown Cemetery at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. Friends may call at the Mortuary after 2 p.m. Thursday. Capt. Sering, 28, died in Clark AFB Hospital July 18. Death was attributed to endocarditis which he contacted in May while serving in Thailand. He was the son of Oscar and Isabelle Lawton Sering, former residents of Newtown, who now live in Indianapolis. He attended Northwestern University and received his doctor of dental surgery degree from Indiana University. Capt. Sering was a member of the Green Berets. He went to Thailand in the fall of 1967 and did dental work in remote areas of the country. He was married to Nancy McBride in Bangkok on Jan. 13, 1968. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents of Indianapolis are a brother, Bill of Carmel; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lawton of Newtown and aunts and uncles. --typed by Walt W

NEWTOWN, Ind. (CNS)— Capt. Dale L. Sering, 28, of Indianapolis, a former resident of Newtown, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday (July 18, 1968) at the Clark Air Force Base in Manilla, Philippine Islands. He contacted bacterial endocarditis in Thailand in May. Three weeks ago he was being flown to an Air Force base hospital in Japan, but, because of his critical condition, he was taken to Manilla instead. Capt. Sering had gone to Thailand in late 1967 as a member of the Green Berets of the Air Force. While in Thailand he offered dental surgery in remote parts of the country, where it is thought that he contacted the disease. He was an overseer of dental clinics being built in Thailand. He was born May 30, 1940, in Newtown, son of Oscar and Isabelle Lawton Sering. The family moved to Indianapolis when he was nine years old. He graduated from North Central High in Indianapolis. He attended Northwestern University and received his degree in dental surgery from the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. He married Nancy McBride in Bangkok, Thailand, Jan. 13, 1968. She assisted him with the dental work in Thailand. Surviving are the widow; the parents of Indianapolis; a brother, Bill of Carmel, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Lawton of Newtown. NEWTOWN — Military services for Capt. Dale Sering, age 28, of Indianapolis, a native of Newtown, who died July 18, at the Clark Air Force Base Hospital in Manila, Philippines, were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Broad Ripple Flanner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Burial was in the Newtown Cemetery at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. Capt. Sering, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sering of Indianapolis, member of the Green Berets of the U. S. Air Force and had been in Thailand since last fall. --typed by Walt W
