Crawfordsville, IN. — Merle R. Sennett, 91, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died at 5:20 p.m. EDT Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in Williamsburg Nursing Home, Crawfordsville. He was born March 3, 1919, in Wellington, Ill., the son of Clarence A. and Blance (Ripley) Sennett. He married Izetta Lasley on April 4, 1941. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Clark (Nancy) Sennett of Waynetown, Ind.; three daughters, Carolyn (Darrel) Elijah of Tucson, Ariz., Charlene Sennett and her husband, Rodney Holmes, of Chicago, and Mary (Jeff) Mason of Zionsville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Sennett. He had farmed in the Waynetown, Ind., area since the age of 6 before moving to Crawfordsville five years ago. He was a 1937 graduate of Waynetown High School. He had a bread delivery route for two years after high school. He was a radio technician first class in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Waynetown United Methodist Church, where he had served as treasurer for 25 years. He was a life member of the Waynetown American Legion, a member of Indiana Farm Bureau since 1947, and was a former member of the Crawfordsville Eagles and Elks. Merle was a member of the Waynetown Schools Advisory Board, a founding member of the North Montgomery School Board and was school board president during the construction of the new North Montgomery High School. He retired from the board in 1974. Services will be 11 a.m. EDT Friday, April 16, at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Road, Waynetown, Ind., with Rev. Dorman Winger officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with military honors at the gravesite.
