Sellar - Hannah Pogue

Harriet Jane POGUE was born in Mason County, Ky. Oct 2, 1823 and died Sept 18, 1895 aged 71 years 11 months and 14 days. She was married to John Moreland SELLAR Nov 27, 1845. They were blessed with six children, five sons and one daughter of whom 3 preceded their mother to the spiritual world and 3 survive her: Henry of Dakota; Edgar and William of Iowaa remain to mourn their great loss. She joined the Presbyterian church early in life and was an earnest devoted follower of Christ, being possessed of more than ordinary powers of mind and Christian virtue. Of the large family of her brothers and sisters but two are living: Archibald Hopkins Pogue of Burbank, California at the advanced age of 82 and Hannah Yowell of Shellsburg, Iowa about 80. Silas Pogue, the oldest brother of this remarkable family died 2 years ago aged 84. Margaret Lampson, the youngest died about a year ago at the age of 70. These fathers and mothers in Israel have been living witnesses ever testifying of the reality of the religion of Christ. Though we may live long on the earth our time is short to one looking back. The funeral of Mrs. Sellers took place at the Presbyterian Church Sunday, conducted by Rev. Black, assisted by Rev. Rayle and Cave. A large concourse of friends and relatives were in attendance. -s

Mrs. Moreland Sellar died Wednesday, Sept. 18, of pleuritis, at the age of seventy two years, at her home three miles south of Darlington. She had been ill but a few days. She was one of the old residents of the county and a highly respected and much loved old lady. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and her husband survives her. -s
