Alamo, Sept. 23 - John W. Selby, 79, resident of this vicinity nearly all his life, died at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at his home in Alamo. He had been in failing health for the past two months and seriously ill for two weeks with complications. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Alamo Christian church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Samuel Smith of Ladoga, in charge. Burial will be in the Alamo cemetery. Mr. Selby was born June 8, 1855, in Alamo, the son of Charles and Sarah J. Hatt Selby. He was first married November 2, 1881 to Ida Nichols, who passed away May 10, 1923. He then married May 8, 1924, to Fronia Clodfelter, who survives. With the exception of a year's residence in Crawfordsville, Mr. Selby spent all of his life in Alamo or the surrounding community. Surviving, besides the widow, are three sons, Charles Selby, of Crawfordsville, and Fred and Scott Selby, of Alamo; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Rush, of Alamo; four grandchildren; two stepchildren; five step-grandchildren; two half sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Myers, of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Viola Compton, of Robertsdale, Ala.
