Hillsboro – Joseph H. Searle, 81 of Hillsboro died at 2:15 p.m. Friday in Culver Union Hospital. Mr. Searle was retired from the JM Huber Corp of Macon, GA where he had worked as a carpenter in the maintenance department. He and his wife moved from London, England to Macon in Jan 1962 and from Macon to Hillsboro in 1991. A military veteran, he served 11 years in the British Army Royal Corps of Engineers and served in WWII in Egypt, Palestine, Germany and throughout the European theater. He carried dual citizenship in England and America. His memberships included the Holy Spirit Church of Macon where he was a past president of the Legion of Mary and was an active member of the choir. He was also a longtime member of the Mount DeSales Academy Athletic Association. He attended South Shields, England schools. He was born Nov 22, 1912 at South Shields to Thomas William and Jane Hodgin Searle. He married Muriel J. Ashwell at London July 29, 1939. She preceded him in death May 28, 1993. Survivors include three daughter, Valerie A. McGrady of Hillsboro; Pauline F. Paruso of Savannah, Ga and Jane E. Doll of Vincennes, Ind; a sister, Mrs. Mary Mullet of New Castle, England; 8 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. A funeral Mass is schedule for 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Covington with Rev. Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in Waynetown masonic Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at Cramer-Shoemaker Funeral Home at Cramer-Shoemaker Funeral Home at Waynetown. A rosary is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
