George W. SEAMAN, A Mason for Fifty Years, died in this city. Formerly Resided Near New Market - Was Farmer and Stock Buyer – Married Five Times.
George W. SEAMAN who would have been eighty-four if he had lived until February, died on Tuesday afternoon at five at his home at the intersection of Blair Street and Lane avenue from the infirmities of age. He had been totally blind for four years and had been confined to his bed for the past two years. Mr. SEAMAN was married five times. His widow, who was Mrs. Catherine BUCHANAN before he married her twenty years ago, survives. Eleven children were born to Mr. SEAMAN and his first wife, six of whom survive, five sons, Nelson, Colorado; William, Chicago; Albert, New Market; Charley and Frank, Crawfordsville and one daughter, Mrs. Lyda BEAVER at the Soldiers’ Home, Lafayette. Mr. SEAMAN was born in Ohio and came to this county at an early age with his parents who settled near New Market. It was there he grew to manhood and married his first wife. He was a farmer and a well-known horse buyer for a number of years. He then moved to this city where he has resided for the past twenty-two years. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and had been for the past fifty years or more. In politics he was a lifelong Republican. The funeral will occur at his late residence on Thursday at half past ten. The interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery.

George W SEAMAN moved to Shelby County, Indiana in 1834 with his parents Joseph and Jane MELOY SEAMAN from Warren County, Ohio. Joseph died in Shelbyville in 1845. George W married Mary Elizabeth ALRED in Shelby County, Indiana in 1848. George W and Mary Elizabeth had moved to Montgomery County sometime between 1850 and 1860. Mary Elizabeth SEAMAN died Nov 16, 1869 and is buried in the old Indian Creek Cemetery on Hwy 234

Seaman - if anyone knows more about his marriages, please let me know :) kbz -- #1 of course was Mary Alred (married 20 August 1848 - Shelby Co Indiana she died in 1867) -- #2 Catherine Love 1874 - sorry, NO other information on her -- #3 Frances E. Swank Married 31 December 18852 who died 1 July 1894 -- #4 mentioned above Cecelia Catherine Clouse Buchanan married 17 January 1895.
