Scott - Mary McMullen

Mrs. Achelaus Scott died at the home of William E. Scott near Lebanon at a quarter past twelve on Thursday night last. She has been suffering for some time from asthma. The body was brought here on Sunday. Funeral services at the Christian Church at eleven o'clock were in charge of Rev. F.E. Graves. Mrs. Scott was the eldest daughter of Edward and Margaret McMullen. She was born in this county November 16, 1853. She married Archelaus Scott January 18, 1872. She lived the greater part of her life in this vicinity, moving to Lebanon a few years ago. Mr. Scott died February 8, 1916. Nine children were born to them of whom seven survive: Mrs. Martha Viola Moore and Mrs. Estella Morgan of Waveland; Mrs. Amanda Adams of Indianapolis; William E. and Ira Chase Scott and Mrs. Laura Cooper of Lebanon; and Ben H. Scott of Valporaiso. There are two step-children: Charles Scott of Lebanon and Mrs. Effie Call of Clinton. She leaves two brothers: Thomas McMullen of Lebanon, and Samuel McMullen of Mechanichsburg; and two sisters: Mrs. Sarah Miller of Lebanon and Mrs. Lorena Bowen of Thorntown. There are twenty-two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Scott was a member of the Christian Church, having joined at the age of fourteen. It is an interesting circumstance that all of her children were with her at a family dinner on the Monday preceding her death. Those present from a distance were Guy Eggers and family of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Effie Call and children, Harvey, Hubert and Cora, and Clarence Call and children, of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse McMullen of Marshall; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McMullen of Mechanicsburg; Mrs. Lorene Bowen of Thorntown; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams, Virgil Covert and family, Mrs. Jessie Utterback, Mrs. Clotine Cartwright, and Mrs. Bertha Green, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Bertha and Bernard Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McMullen, Mrs. Sarah Miller, Charles Scott, Mr. and Mrs.Fred Cooper, Chase Scott and family, William Scott and family, and Mrs. Josie Conner, all of Lebanon, and Mr. and Mrs. Ben H. Scott of Valporaiso. - kbz
