Scott - John McClung

The following concerning a former well known resident of Montgomery County appeared in the Portland Oregonian recently:
"John McClung Scott who died at his home, 264 E. 8th Street, Nov 16, was a resident of Oregon for 48 years. He was born in Indiana October 14, 1822, and crossed the plains in 1862. He united with the Christian Church when a young man and was a member of the First Christian of Portland at the time of his death. Mr. Scott joined the Masonic order in Iowa in 1854 and 1868 he assisted in organizing Columbia Lodge, No 42, in Portland, Ore of which he was a grand master. He is survived by the following children: Wm. H. Coons of Troutdale, Ore and Mary J Hill, Samuel J. Scott, Sarah E. Wagner and Laura H. Scott, all of Portland."
Mr. Scott was an uncle of Levi Coons of Maple Corner, Montgomery County and also has a number of other relatives living in this section. He was born here and for a time lived on the Henry Harding place near this city - typed by kbz
