John Henry Scott, a well known resident of the city, passed away at 7:30 o'clock Friday evening at his home on South Grant Avenue, after a gradual decline of several months. Mr. Scott was born in NIchholasville, Jessamine County, Kentucky Jan 26, 1839 but ws brought to Indiana in early youth and has resided in Crawfordsville the greater part of his life. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. B 10th Regt, Indiana Volunteers, in what is known as Manson's Regiment and he served 3 yers with this regiment. On December 24, 1869, he was married to Rebecca Long and to them were born 5 children, one of whom, Hattie, died in infancy. His wife and four children survive: Mrs. N.W. Mr. Scott lived continually in Crawfordsville for 62 years and over 30 of them were spent at his home on Grant Avenue where he died. he was continuously employed in the Miller Carriage Works more than 44 years, which is the best possible commentary on his probity and usefulness. As a neighbor and friend he was kind and considerate. He walked unassumingly his quiet path of life faithful in all his relations to home and as a citizen to his comrades. The remains can be viewed tomorrow from 2 to 5 o'clock. The funeral will occur on Monday morning at 10:30 and will be under the auspices of the Grand Army, the Rev. Nave officiating.
