Word from JA SCOTT was received here Monday that Charles Scott had passed away on April 13 in Haines City, Florida. Charles Scott and Crawder published The Weekly Independent here. Scott assuming the place of Zell Talbot in 1893. Later Mr. Scott became sole owner and published the paper under the name of Waveland Independent. In about 1887 he married Maggie MANN and to this union 3 daughters were born: Margaret; Helen and Leatha. He sold to TE Huston Jan 1900 and moved to Marshall, Ill where he edited and published a paper for a number of years, going from there to Haines City, Florida, where he continued in the newspaper business. Mr. Scott was a Presbyterian and with his family contributed to a great amount of talent to the local church. He was the instigator of the Chrysanthemum shows that were outstanding for this section if the country. He had the house built that stood on the lot opposite where Mr. Evart Keys now owns; that house burned when Mr. Grizzel owned it. == kbz
