Leo G. Schweitzer, former Crawfordsville resident and a pioneer in organizing local bands and orchestras died Sunday morning when he suffered a heart attack in his automobile near Eagle Grove, Iowa, his home. Mr. Schweitzer, 67, had been in excellent health, his death coming as an unexpected shock to relatives and friends. He was born in this city May 13, 1875, son of Christ and Theresa Schweitzer. He was educated in the local schools and helped in the organization of several local bands and orchestras. Many may recall him as the director of the orchestra at the old Music Hall and later the Strand Theatre. During the first World War he was a YMCA worker and secretary. He belonged to the Elks and Maosnic lodges. Surviving are a son, Theodore of Lafayette; a daughter, Mary Mildred Schweitzer, teacher in the local schools, a sister, Mrs. W.M. Hunt of Houston, Texas and two brothers, Richard Schweitzer of Knightstown, Indiana and Herman of Webster City, iowa. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Members of the family have gone to Eagle Grove Iowa to make funeral arrangements. - typed by kbz

Eagle Grove – Funeral services for Leo J. Schweitzer, 67, of Webster City formerly of Eagle Grove were held at the funeral parlors of Kubitschek & Kastler here Tuesday at 10 a.m. in charge of the Rev. JR Tumbleson of the Methodist Church. Burial was made in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Surviving are one daughter, Mary M. Schweitzer, Crawfordsville, Ind; a son, Theodore in Lafayette, Ind; a brother, Herman, Webster City; a brother Richard in Knightstown, Ind and a sister in Texas. Mr. Schweitzer was a band and orchestra leader and had charge of the city band in Eagle Grove and the boys’ band 10 years ago. After leaving this city he had charge of the band in Goldfield for a time. He was found dead in his car near Woolstock Saturday night, evidently having suffered a heart attack.
