Schultz - Chalmer

NEWTOWN – Chalmer Schultz, 93, a native of Newtown and former Richland Township school teacher and Newtown Bank cashier, died of a heart ailment at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He attended Indiana State Normal and was a member of of the Newtown Presbyterian Church. Mr. Schultz was a cashier in the Newtown Bank from 1908 to 1923. He then moved to Otterbein where he also worked in a bank. In 1928 he and his family moved to Fort Collins, Colo. After 15 years there, he moved to Colorado Springs. He spent 15 years there while associated with the Great Western Sugar Co. He retired in 1958 and returned to Newtown. He was a son of Thomas and Clara Gray Schultz and was born June 16, 1877. He was married June 3, 1908 to Evelyn Foster, who died in 1966. Survivors include a son, Ralph of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Gwendolyn VanDoren of Chadron, Neb., and Mrs. Barbara Daws of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services are pending at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro. -– jlr
