LEBANON, Ind. (AP)— Services for Hassil E. Schenk, 78, former president of the Indiana Farm Bureau will be conducted Saturday. He died at a hospital here Wednesday. Schenk was president of the Farm Bureau from 1936-57. He was also a founder and former president of the Farm Bureau Insurance Co. and a former board member of the Indiana Farm Bureau Co-Operative Association.

LEBANON— Hasil E. Schenck, 78, whose efforts helped swell membership in the Indiana Farm Bureau to the largest of any state farm organization in the nation, died Thanksgiving Eve in a hospital here not far from the Boone County farm where he was born and where he resided. H e suffered a massive stroke about two weeks ago. Owner of Whisp'rin Pines Farm in Lebanon, Schenck headed the IFB from 1936 to Jan. 1, 1958, spurring a membership growth during those years from 20,000 to 130,000. He held the presidency longer than anyone else in the organization's history. He served on Purdue University's Board of Trustees in 1959-63, beginning in March, to complete the term of William A. Atkins who died. He also served on many state boards and commissions. Schenck held honors from the American Farm Bureau Federation, from the nation and from Indiana. At President Harry S. Truman's request, he went to Europe after World War II to help restore the continent's agriculture. He is survived by his widow, Izella Clark Schenck and a daughter, Mrs. Carroll Kern.
