Saidla - Mildred Easley

Mildred L. Saidla, 82, of Chesterton, Ind., died Wednesday in Whispering Pines Nursing Home at Valparaiso, Ind. She had been ill for several years. Mrs. Saidla and her husband owned and operated Atlas Manufacturing at LaPorte, Ind. They moved the business to Chestertonin 1938. The Saidla's also owned and operated Atlas roller skating rinks, the last of which was built in 1946. They also built Saidla's apartments at Chesterton and Mrs. Saidla operated the apartments until 1973. She was born April 5, 1905, at New Market to Charles and Eva Buser Easley. She married John C. Saidla July 12, 1922. He died in 1964. Survivors include a son, Charles D. of Glendale, Calif., a daughter, Ila Joan Summers of Chesterton; a sister, Velma Tague of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two nieces of Crawfordsville, Mariam Surface and Evelyn Carlile, and another niece of Las Vegas; and many cousins in the area. In addition to her husband, her son, Collyn; two brothers, J.L. and J.C.; and sisters, Mrs. Paul Everson and Mrs. Earl Cowdin, are deceased. Funeral services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday in White Funeral Home with the Rev. Rex Mitchell officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-9 p.m. Friday. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at IOOF Cemetery at Darlington with the Rev. Mike Goforth officiating. - thanks to Sue P for sending this one :)
