The following from the Portland Oregonian concerns the death of a sister of Harvey, James and William Coons of this city, the deceased herself having been raised here, where she has many friends.
Mrs. Sarah Wray Scott, wife of John M. Scott, died last Saturday morning at the residence on east eighth street, from heart disease. Mrs. Scott was a well known woman, having lived in Multnomah county, with the exception of one year in Lane, for the last 35 years. She crossed the plains in 1 862 with her husband in a large wagon train, and they settled in Lane county for one year. From there they moved to the Columbia river at a point six miles from Vancouver on the Oregon side. It was here she lived for nearly 20 years, moving to Portland in 1883, where she has resided ever since. She was a woman of sterling qualities, as the residents in the Columbia slough country can testify. No woman was more highly respected in that neighborhood, and none more helpful to any who required her ready assistance. Her health became very much impaired from heart trouble about a year and & half ago, and her life at several times was despaired of but she recovered, and until a week ago was in fair health for one of her age. She had been a devout Christian woman and a member of the Christian church since she was 15 years of age. At the time of her death she was 74 years and 5 months old. She leaves a husband, John M. Scott, and the following grown children: W. H. Coons (by a former marriage), who lives at Troutdale; Mrs. M.L. Hill, East Portland; S.F. Scott, Columbia slough; Mrs. H.R. Long, East Portland; and Mrs. Laura R. Scott. Living at home.
