Russell - Joseph Webster
Source: Waveland Independent, Sept 2, 1898
After weeks of suffering, Joseph W. Russell died last Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock. Funeral services were held in the Christian church on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. JC Ashley. Interment in Waveland Cemetery. Joseph Webster Russell was born June 29, 1854. He was a son of Dr. Joseph and Mary E. Russell. He united with the Christian Church in 1872. Although not an active church worker he was interested in Christ's cause. He loved true Christianity, but hated shams and hypocrisy. To those only who were dearest to him did he ever give expression to his thoughts on these things. His life was quiet and uneventful, but he had many warm friends, and there was not a day of his two months' illness that some of them did not come to see "Joe." A great deal might be said in commendation of him by those who knew him best, but to those outside his life was almost as a closed book, for he made no effort to parade his good qualities before disinterested people. He was full of sympathy for those in trouble, he was honest, he was kind. He will be greatly missed by his friends, and most sadly by his mother, brothers and sisters. - kbz
