The last sad rites were performed over the body of Jesse RUSH, the unfortunate brakeman, who met a tragic death on Last Friday afternoon. The wheels of 3 trucks of a freight train ran over his legs, the resultant shock killing him. His funeral was conducted at the Baptist church by Rev. Hinson at half past two. It was one of the largest funerals ever held at New Market. A special train carrying more than 100 members of the Brotherhood of Logansport attended and participated in the ritualistic services at the grave, as did the Order of Odd Fellows. -- typed by kbz

Jesse W. Rush, the Vandalia brakeman, who was run over by three trucks of Vandalia freight Friday afternoon, died at Culver Union Hospital at 8:10 that evening, having failed to regain consciousness. The nervous shock was too great, as his right leg at the hip was crushed to a pulp and his left leg at the knee was badly mangled, the hemorrhages being profuse. There was a hole in his head and one arm was bruised and torn. The three attending physicians did everything possible for him, but the shock killed him within three and a half hours after he was run over. The body was taken to his brother's home, George Rush, on Woodlawn place , where it was prepared for burial. This afternoon at 3 o'clock the body was taken to New market by D.C. Barnhill, funeral director. The funeral will occur from the home of Mrs. Sarah M. Rush, widow of Jesse Tilgman Rush, on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment at the Presbyterian Indiana Creek Hill cemetery. One leg was amputated at the hip and the other lower down. It is said he had a premonition that he would be killed and told his relatives so, no more than a week ago.--typed by kbz
