Last Tuesday morning between 7 and 8 o'clock, John Royer, who lives on the farm of Silas Peterson in Sugar Creek Twp, committed suicide by hanging himself to a beam in the barn. Some two months ago he had a severe attack of erysipelas, and at various times since his mind has been deranged and he was very despondent often saying to his family that he wished he was out of the way. Monday he went to Darlington and got shaved and his hair dressed and on returing he remarked to his family that he was fixing for a journey, and there would be some trouble about the house when he left. The body was found by his son, William Royer who called Silas Peterson and they cut the body down and found life extinct and neck having been broken in the fall. Mr. Royer is the second man who has committed suicide by hanging from the same beam. He was 55 years old and leaves a family to mourn his sad fate. An inquest was held by Esq John W. Ramsay of this city, the jury returning a verdict of "death by his own hands."
