Joe E. Rountree, 85, died Thursday in Nweark, Ohio. He was a former Crawfordsville resident. Mr. Rountree was born March 24, 1894 to Jones and Phrone Rountree near Alamo. He married Rebecca Haspady Sept 21, 1904. She prceded him in death in 1968. One son, John J. Rountree also preceded him in death in 1967. He was a conductor for the PA RR for 42 years until his retirement in 1950. He was a member of RRmen's Fellowship. Surviving are two daughters, Misses Josephine and Clementine Rountree of Newark, Ohio; a daughter in law, Mrs. John Rountree of Auburn, Ind; a sister, Mrs. Nell Wilhite of Crawfordsville; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a niece, Mrs. Alfred Burk of Crawfordsville and nephew Richard C. Wilhite of Crawfordsville. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Newark, Ohio. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Crawfordsville at 4 p.. with Rt Rev. Msgr. Henry F. Ward officiating.

Requiem Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis de Sales Church for Joseph E. Rountree. 85, of 92 S. Fourth St. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Ind. Mr. Rountee died Thursday morning in Newark Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for three years. Born March 24, 1884 in Montgomery County, Ind., he was a son of Jones and Phrone Emfinger (sic) Rountree. He was a retired conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad where he was employed for 40 years. He was a member of Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. His wife, Rebecca Haftaday (sic) Rountree, died in 1968. Surviving are two daughters: Josephine and Clementine Rountree, both of the home; one sister, Mrs. Nelle Wilhite of Crawfordsville, Ind., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One son is dead. Egan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and friends may call there from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. today.
