Ross - Boswell
Note from: Lena Carlson Harper - I can't remember if I've sent this obit or not - forgive me if I have. I found this Biography in Monticello. Boswell Ross was born and raised in Montgomery County, near Wingate in Coal Creek Township. I'm not sure when his family moved to White County but I know they were there from 1882-1884. They went back to Montgomery County shortly after the death of Boswell and they are buried in Oakland Cemetery in Elmdale. Boswell Ross was the son of James and Mary (Farley) Ross. Henry Ross was his younger brother and in the Lafayette papers I found a few interesting stories on him and his marriage in 1890. I'm sure there are more articles about this in the Crawfordsville Journal but I haven't gotten a chance to go look for them yet.
Source: Monticello Herald, Thursday, February 14, 1884 THE PARTICULARS OF THE FATAL ACCIDENT TO BOSWELL ROSS Baud Ross, the young man who was so fearfully mangled by a circular saw last Thursday in Liberty township, died from his injuries Friday night. Though his left arm was cut off by the saw and his left leg so badly lacerated that amputation was necessary, yet the doctors state that the loss of blood was not sufficient to cause his death. The most serious effect of his injury was the nervous shock which was the direct cause of his death. In addition to the injuries above mentioned his right leg was broken, and Drs. Spencer and Clark were engaged all day in dressing the poor fellow's various injuries. The accident happened by the log carriage of the mill starting unexpectedly to Ross [tr]ipping him and throwing him in front of the saw. Thanks muches to Lena :)
