Alfred Rose died Friday, March 28, at his home near Ladoga. The funeral occurred at the M. E. Church in Ladoga on Sunday. Mr. Rose was born at Millersburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia, February 8, 1804. When but two years old his father moved to Washington County, Tennessee. He grew to manhood in that State, and married Miss Mary Morrison there April 14, 1825. She remained his faithful and kind companion for 43 years, until death called her on November 3, 1868. There were born to them eight children, four sons and four daughters of which three sons, including T. M. and V. H. Rose, and two daughters, still live. He had 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Two years after his marriage he immigrated to Indiana settling in Union County, but two years later in 1829 he came to Montgomery County. He was an important figure in the pioneer history of Clark Township and acted as a clerk at the first election ever held in the township. For many years he served his township as a Justice of the Peace and to show his knowledge of the law as well as his innate sense of right, it should be said that not a single one of his numerous decisions was ever appealed from to a higher court. The first presidential vote ever cast by Alfred Rose was for Andrew Jackson in 1828. In 1832 he again voted for Jackson. He then became a zealous Whit and acted with that party until the birth of the Republican Party with which he has ever since been identified.  He was a remarkable man in many respects and his industry and energy have had a large influence in developing the community in which he lived. Firm in all his convictions of what he deemed right he never surrendered unless by positive evidence that he was wrong. In every moral reform he has been in the front ranks and he was never ashamed to show his colors.
