New Ross - Mrs. Ella Matthews Rogers, 73, wife of Harmon Rogers, a prominent agriculturalist died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She had been in failing health for six months. Mrs. Rogers had been a life long resident of Putnam County prior to her marriage May 20, 1956 to Harmon Rogers of New Ross. She was formerly married to Richard Earl Matthews who preceded her in death in 1924. Mrs. Rogers was born in Putnam County, Aug 19, 1889 daughter of Mathias and Nancy Elmore Masten. She was the youngest of a family of 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the New Ross Christian Church. Survivors include the widower, Harmon Rogers; two sons, Eugene and Robert Mathews of Greencastle; 3 stepson, Dr. Donald Rogers of Indianapolis, Norman Rogers of New Ross and Dorman Rogers of Plainfield; a brother, Everett Masten of Rt 2, Greencastle; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church at Greencastle. Rev. Maxwell Webb, pastor of the Greencastle Christian Church and Rev. Stanley Hicks, pastor of the New Ross Christian Church will officiate. Friends may call at the Hopkins & Walton Funeral Home at Greencastle. -- kbz
