Robertson - Alice Kritz

Mrs. J.W. Robertson came to her death on Thursday afternoon of last week by drowning in a cistern in the rear of her home. She has been in poor health for a number of years and was lying down when Mr. Robertson left the house at 3. When he returned about 5 he could not find her in the house nor at the home of her sisters. A neighbor called attention to the lid being off the cistern and the body was found. Coroner Griffith was called and returned a verdict of suicide by drowning. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon by Rev. JT Boyer assisted by Rev JB Johnson. Burial at Maple Ridge.
The following obituary was read: Alice Kritz, daughter of Henry S. and Mary A. Kritz, b. March 2, 1856, departed this life Aug 23, 1923 - aged 67 years, five months and 21 days. She grew up in this community and was educated in the Waveland Academy-the institution with which her father was so long identified, who was largely instrumental in making Waveland notable as an educational center. Oct 26, 1881 she united in married to James W. Robertson. To them were born two daughters, one of whom, Mrs. Mable Groninger of Indianapolis, survives. She made profession of faith in Christ March 13, 1870 and united with the Waveland Presbyterian Church; and she ever lived a life consistent with her profession - a life of faith and grace. In the days of her health she was active and interested in the Church and in the welfare of the community. Many who have known her from childhood say, "Mrs. Robertson was a good woman." She was true, sincere and unwavering in her faith. The word of God ever held a quickening message for her spiritual life. With the husband and daughter, a large family of relatives and a host of friends gather about her in love and devotion as she is laid to rest. - kbz
