William Andrew Jackson Roberts, 86, of Danville Route 3 (West Newell Road), died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lake View Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 28. He had been ill since August. Mr. Roberts, who moved to Danville in 1913, began working as an apprentice boilermaker for the C&EI Railroad and later served as a boiler inspector for 36 years for the railroad. He served as a city policeman for four years, during the Claude Madden mayoral administration and as a sheriff's deputy under Vermilion County sheriff W. C. Timm. He was born Aug. 21, 1888, in Gofford, Ill., the son of Alexander and Beulah Ballinger Roberts. He married Hester E. Penrod in 1910 in Danville. She died June 8, 1971. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, Olive Branch Masonic Lodge 38, where he received his 50-year pin in 1971, and the C&EI boilermakers' union. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Beverly) Coan of Danville, and Mrs. Charles (Nila June) Brandenburg of New Ross, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Florence Boehme of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Fox officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be given by Olive Branch Lodge 38 at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.--waw
