Robbins - Mary Cheek

Wingate-- Mrs. Mary Matilda Robbins, 83, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday at her home here after an illness of five years. Her condition had been serious since early in August. The daughter of William and Hannah Cheek, she was born June 6, 1879 in Lee County, Virginia and moved to Kentucky as a teenager. She married Jasper Marion Robbins in February 1899 at Somerset, Ky. They lived in and near Wingate since 1912. Mrs. Robbins was a member of the Wingate Methodist Church and Unit 174 of the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are the husband; four sons, Virgil of Brook, A. C. of Worthington, Ohio, Marion on Winchester and Wiley of Wingate; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Swaynie of West Lafayette and Mrs. Martha Denny of Somerset, Ky., and four grandchildren, Mrs. Paul Ekli of Frankfort, Wiley C. of Wingate, Nelson Lee of Ohio University at Athens and Marion Margaret Robbins of Miami University at Oxford, Ohio. Mrs. Robbins was preceded in death by an infant son, William; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Robbsin and Dr. Florence Robbins; four brothers, William, John, Charles and Joe Cheek, and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Davis and Mrs. Sally Smith. Funeral services are announced for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Rev. John Landon of the Wingate Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in the Meharry Cemetery north of Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.
