Rule - Billie and Jackie
Source: Waveland Independent July 24, 1947
Two sons, of Mr. and Mrs. William C. RULE, former residents of
Waveland were drowned Wed. near their home in Hampton, Iowa while
on an outing with their parents and their uncle, Robert Rule. The
bank of the creek gave way when the two boys, Billie, 10 and
Jackie, 9 were playing. They were both plunged into deep water.
The parents who were fishing not far away rushed to their
assistance. Had it not been for the heroic work of Mr. Rule's
brother, both Mr. and Mrs. Rule would have drowned along with
their children. The tragedy occurred on the west fork of Cedar
River which runs closeby the farm Mr. Rule owns near Hampton. The
two boys who were drowned has been assisting their parents in
seining for minnows in shallow water before they returned to play
on the river's bank while their parents and uncle continued their
fishing. Mrs. BM Harbeson is a sister of William and Robert Rule.
They attended school in Waveland a number of years ago. - kbz
