LINDEN -- Mrs. Nannie O. Ritchie, longtime resident of Linden, died at 4:10 a. m. Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. Mrs. Ritchie, 70, was admitted to the hospital only five and a half hours before her death. Born on March 18, 1898, in Hardin County, Ky., she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Quiggins Avery. She attended schools in the Maple Grove community. Her marriage to Joe Ritchie was solemnized on Dec. 31, 1918, in Lafayette. Mr. Ritchie survives. The couple came to Linden in 1920 from the Wea community. Mrs. Ritchie was employed as a practical nurse from 1918 to 1949, and owned and operated a restaurant in Linden for a six-year period afterward. In 1955 she accepted employment as a cook in the school system. Mrs. Ritchie was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church and the Linden Community Circle. Surviving besides the husband are a brother, O. L. Avery of Bowling Green, Ky.; a sister, Mrs. Ella Gandy of Moline, Ill., and nieces and nephews. Two sisters preceded her in death. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Mina Lee Davis in charge. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday.
