Dr. Luther A. Risk, 72, longtime Lafayette dentist, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital at 3 a.m. Monday. He had been ill several months and a patient in the hospital since Sept. 30. The family home is 332 Park Lane, West Lafayette. Born at Melville, N. D., Dr. Risk had been a partner in the Risk Dental Clinic in Lafayette 43 years. After service in World War I, he attended Fargo College in North Dakota and later received his dental degree from the University of Minnesota. He and two brothers, Dr. Harold J. Risk and the late Dr. Paul A. Risk, formed the dental clinic in 1922. Dr. Risk was married in 1930 in West Lafayette to Mildred Morgan who died last year. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Indiana State Dental Association and an honorary life member of the American Dental Association. He also was a member of American Legion Post 11, Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge 123, Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Temple and Shrine, Elks 143, Optimist Club, Torch Club, Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity and Acacia Fraternity and the Geographic Society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joan Shiplett of Denville, N. J., and Mrs. Gretchen Rehm of Elmhurst, Ill.; a son, David of Muncie; six sisters, Mrs. Howard Tiffany of Ingleside, Tex., Mrs. Sidney Bostick of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Richard Peterson of Valley City, N.D., Mrs. Haydn Wilson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Deane White of Colonia, N.J., and Mrs. Jesse Whitcomb of South Bend, and three brothers, Dr. Robert G. Risk of Indianapolis, Ralph A. Risk of Wingate and Dr. Harold J. Risk of West Lafayette. Friends may call at Eikenberry Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Services in Central Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Dr. J. Dayton McCormick officiating; interment in Grand View Cemetery. Seven grandchildren survive. Family suggests friends so desiring may contribute in memoriam to Cancer Unit, 806 N. 9th St., or memorial fund of Central Presbyterian Church.
