Mellott -- Irvin Riley, age 79, a life resident of the Mellott community, died Monday morning, Aug. 12, at the Comfort Convalescent Home in Lafayette, where he had been a patient for the past four days following a six-weeks stay at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born on a farm southeast of Mellott on May 22, 1884, the son of Elias and Margaret Smith Riley. He lived his entire life in and near Mellott and had farmed until his retirement. He was a member of the New Antioch Christian Church of Mellott. Mr. Riley is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (June) Cochran of Lafayette; one son, Wayne Riley of Mellott; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Gott of Rantoul, Ill., and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Grover DeNeal of Waveland officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. -- typed by Walt W
