Stringtown - Chancey R. Riggs, 63, died of a heart attack at 8:40 a.m. Sunday at his farm near Stringtown. He had finished his morning chores and was eating breakfast when he suffered the heart attack. Born April 31, 1902, in Liberty Township in Parke County, he was a son of Chancey and Lillian Rush Riggs. On Jan 9, 1926, he was married to Thelma Berto. He had been a resident of the Stringtown community with the exception of 9 years in Warren County. He was a farmer most of his life, but had also been employed on the state highway and worked in construction. He was a member of Yeddo Lodge F&AM. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Henrietta) Hunsaker of Danville, Ill; and Mrs. Theodore (Marietta) Wilkerson of Mooresville, Ind; two brothers, Asa of near Covington, and Robert of Cayuga; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Swaby of Linton, Mrs. Helena Carter of Covington and Mrs. Fannie Randooph of near Kingman and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wed Jan 26 at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Rev. Stephen High and Rev. Billie Rudd will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday. - kbz
