Rich - Jennie

Source: Crawfordsville Star 11 Dec 1884 "Campbell Chapel News"

Jennie Rich, wife of James Rich, died at the home residence near the Chapel on Wednesday morning, Dec 3rd. Her death was the result of a severe cold taken last spring which in time developed into consumption, causing death after 9 months of terrible suffering. She was 42 years 9 months 9 days old. She is the fourth out of 4 sisters all who have died of consumption; Mrs. Evans being the only one living of the five girls. Mrs. Rich leaves a husband, two little girls and one stepdaughter who will feel their loss severely. Haivng been with Jennie considerable during her illness I can say I think I never saw anyone better prepared for death than she was. Surrounded as she was by everything that would tend to bind her to earth she gave it up cheerfully too. In her last hours her voice was constantly raised in prayer. We would like to add the following lines which we once read and which we think so appropriate.
But there's a clime above
This cold and cheerless scene
Where roll immortal streams of love
Through pastures fair and green,
And wave the leaves of Life's braod tree
In breezes of Eternity.
That better lane be mine
My store and treasure there
Who would not this dull earth resign
And tribulations bear
To tread at last those golden streets,
Where sister ransom'd sister meets
