Funeral services at the Crutchfield home on Monday morning, con ducted by Rev. Laurence Green of Covington. Burial will be at Ellensburg, Thursday or Friday. Mary Ellen McCAMPBELL, the fourth daughter of a family of 7 daughters and 5 sons of John Harrison and Sarah Ann GRISAMORE McCampbell was born May 18, 1855, north of Rockville. Her education was begun at No. 5 a country school south of Marshall and finished at Waveland Academy. She united with the Bethany Presbyterian Church when a young girl and was a devoted and earnest worker, answering the call to service when needed as long as health permitted. She was united in marriage with William Albert Rice of Buena Vista, Colorado a former Waveland boy April 4, 1882. He preceded her in death May 16, 1909. To this union there were born one daughter, Victoria and two sons, James Lee and Thomas Harrison Rice. After their marriage they departed for their new home in Buena Vista, living for five years in this wild and rough western town. In August of 1888 they decided to move to Tacoma, Washington. During their stay in Tacoma they heard of the Kittitas Valley. The Northern Pacific RR having just been completed through to the coast, they decided to move to Ellensburg, arriving there in Feb 1889. They liked it so well that they spent the remainder of their married life there. She was truly a pioneer going through all the hardships and privation of the Early West; living to see Ellensburg as a small early western town, cowboys and miners and hundreds of Indians change to a modern college town. In July of 1933 she came here to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crutchfield. She was in declining health for six years and an invalid for 3. July 29, 1935 she was stricken with a hemorrhage followed by a stroke, leaving her bedfast. All that loving hands could do was done by them and by the devoted nursing and cousin, Pearl GAMBLE. They gave her constant and untiring attention but God saw best to call "our little mother" home. She was never known to murmur in all her suffering. She leaves to mourn her going one brother, HA McCampbell of Indianapolis, one sister, Mrs. Loretta IRELAND of Macon, Georgia; a sister-in-law Mrs. Ann V. McCampbell of Roachdale; a daughter, Mrs. Harry Crutchfield of Waveland; two sons, James and TH of Ellensburg, Wash; 4 grandsons and two granddaughters, a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
