Waynetown – Mrs. Julia Rice, 91, of Waynetown died at 12:25 p.m. Friday in Ben Hur Nursing Home, Crawfordsville, where she had resided the past several months. Born at Morehead, Ky she came to Indiana as a child.  In 1909 she was married to Oral Hockett. Her second marriage was in 1948 to Fred Rice who preceded her in death in 1970.  They had farmed the Mellott area prior to moving to Waynetown 16 years ago. Mrs. Rice was a member of Liberty Chapel Community Church, south of New Richmond and Ladies Aid at the church. Surviving is a son, William “Bill” Hockett of New Richmond. - kbz

  Julia Rice of Waynetown, formerly of the Mellott-Hillsboro area, age 91, died Friday afternoon, February 19, in Ben Hur Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. She was born October 16, 1890, in Moorehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert L. and Martha Crisp. In 1909, she married Oral Hockett. November 1948, she married Fred Rice, who died in 1970. She was a member of the Liberty Chapel Community Church and its Ladies Aid. Surviving are a son, William Hockett of New Richmond; a grandson, four great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. William Burkley officiating. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. – thanks to S
