Dr. John T. Rice, aged 83 years, a brother of the late Dr. Harrison J. Rice of Rockville and uncle of Mrs. J.H. Brown and Mrs. F.E. Stevenson of Rockville died at his home in Attica on Sunday morning, November 18 from the infirmities of old age, his strength having declined for several years. Dr. Rice was born on the Rice homestead near Waveland, now owned by William Oglesbee, and he graduated from the Waveland Academy. He volunteered and served as a private until captured at Perrysville, Ky but was exchanged and acted as hospital surgeon at Louisville, until relieved because of illness, when he returned to Rockville, where he practiced medicine with his brother and after his marriage in 1866 to Miss Leona Brown he located permanently in Attica. The funeral was private and was held Sunday afternoon at the family home in charge of Rev. J.G. Campbell and H.O. Tribee, burial being made in the Attica Cemetery. kbz
