Brown's Valley -- Isaac Rice, son of Jonathan Napoleon B. and Narcissus Ann Rice, was born near Newtown, Ind., April 19, 1854; died June 3, 1923, age 69 years, 1 month and 14 days. Early in life Mr. Rice accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and united with the Baptist Church and continued in that faith, being a valued member of the Brown's Valley Baptist Church at the time of his death. His everyday Christianity was one of the outstanding features of his life. He lived the Christlike life from his youth up and those who knew him best have naught to say against him. On Dec. 31, 1877, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Florence Parrent. To this union were born five children: four girls and one boy. One girl and one boy who passed away July 20, 1915, were over there to welcome him home as were also three of his grandchildren. On Dec. 2, 1916, Mr. Rice was united in marriage to Mrs. Lucy Schrader and she with the three daughters of the first marriage, namely, Mrs. Elva L. Slavens of Waveland, Mrs. Mabel E. Wiatt of Bellmore and Miss Claral E. Rice of Brown's Valley; one sister, Mrs. Elvessa Mortimore of Veedersburg; one brother, Jonathan Rice of Linden, five grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends mourn his departure. But they sorrow not as one without hope for Mr. Rice had not only given evidence of his faith in God throughout his life but as he came near the end of life's journey he expressed a desire to be released from this mortal body that he might be with the loved ones and Jesus over there. In the departure of Bro. Rice the Church has lost a loyal supporter and the community a good citizen but we feel assured there has been one more added to the citizens of heaven. The funeral was conducted at the Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and was in charge of Rev. W.C. Tatem of Terre Haute. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. The flower bearers were four neighbor girls, Misses Mildred Pahlman, Grace Wilkinson, Anna Dee Motter and Mary Patton. The choir sang three beautiful selections, "Asleep in Jesus", "Nearer My God to Thee", and "Sometime We'll Understand. kbz
