Howard T. Rice, 69, of Elyria, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. Born in Crawfordsville, Ind., he had lived in Elyria for the past 40 years. He was a 1959 graduate of Kansas State University, where he played basketball. Mr. Rice worked a number of years in various area governmental agencies administering federal programs. He was recently a Realtor with Russell Real Estate Services in North Ridgeville. Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughters Michele Hilston of Euclid and Melanie Owens of Brook Park; four grandchildren; his mother, Julia Rice Preston of Paoli, Pa.; sisters Marilyn Jackson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Rita Rice of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Russell F. Rice and a niece, Emily Jackson. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to Day Away Program in care of Wesleyan Senior Living Foundation, 807 West Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Zak Funeral Home in Cleveland handled arrangements.
