George Rice was born in Ohio March 16, 1828. His father, Roach Rice, moved with his family to this county in 1830, George being then two years old. He grew to manhood here and remained until 1867, when he left and settled in Park County, Iowa, near Des Moines, where he continued to reside until his death on the 7th of April, 1902. His remains were shipped to this place and taken from here to the Potato Creek Church where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Krewel, after which he was laid in the family lot in the Rice Cemetery. George never married, but lived alone. However, he had many friends who proved the old proverb true that a friend in need is a friend indeed.-s

Word has been received announcing the death of George Rice, a former resident of Sugar Creek Township, and a brother of Wm Rice, who now resides near Darlington. Since leaving this county, Mr. Rice has lived in Iowa, where his death occurred. The body was sent to Darlington for interment. The funeral services were held Friday at the Darlington M. E. Church, conducted by Rev. Krewell.
