Charles C. Rice, 66, known throughout this section of the state died at his home in Crawfordsville Sunday morning at 8:45. He had been slightly ill for the three weeks previous to the first of the year, but during the past week had been seriously ill. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. Mr. Rice was the son of James and Mary Rice. He was born and raised on the old Rice homestead, north of town. He attended school here and later the Waveland Academy. He married Miss Laura Campbell, of near Rockville in 1875. About 30 years ago he moved to Crawfordsville where he has been connected with the Martin Tinsley Hardware Co, the Fairbanks-Morse Co, and lately was a traveling sales man for the Johnson Acetylene Co. In his business of traveling he had many friends of various places, and was well liked wherever he went. Mrs. RIce was always interested in music and was a member of the Waveland band while a young man. He was a member of both the Red Men and Tribe of Ben Hur. He is survived by his wife, Laura, a sister, Mrs. Winter Fullenwider this place and two brothers, Thomas A. Rice and Harrison C. Rice, both of Los Angeles. The funeral services were at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 in charge of Rev. J. Roger Sillars, of the 1st Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Rice was a member and elder for many years.
